Sharofiddin Gadoev is the President of the Human Rights Vision Foundation (HRVF), an international human rights organization dedicated to protecting fundamental freedoms, promoting justice, and defending the rights of marginalized and vulnerable populations across Central Asia and beyond. Under his leadership, HRVF works to confront authoritarianism, expose human rights violations, and foster inclusive, democratic societies rooted in the rule of law and dignity for all.
Born on May 19, 1985, in Farkhor District, Khatlon Province, Tajikistan, Gadoev holds a degree in International Law and International Relations from Tajik National University. He began his career as a successful entrepreneur, co-founding several companies between 2005 and 2012. However, due to widespread corruption and monopolization by the ruling elite under President Emomali Rahmon, his businesses were unlawfully confiscated. These injustices led Gadoev to join the political opposition.
In 2012, he co-founded the opposition movement Group 24, advocating for democratic reforms, good governance, and the fight against systemic corruption. In 2018, he established the Movement for Reforms and Development of Tajikistan, which focuses on empowering civil society, protecting human rights, and promoting sustainable development in the country.
Gadoev has been a direct victim of transnational repression. In 2019, he was abducted in Russia, forcibly returned to Tajikistan, and subjected to torture and unlawful detention. His release was secured through the efforts of major international organizations, including Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and the Norwegian Helsinki Committee.
Currently living in exile in the Netherlands, Sharofiddin Gadoev continues to lead HRVF’s work to hold authoritarian regimes accountable, support survivors of repression, and promote international solidarity in defense of freedom and justice. His deep knowledge of international law, experience in political activism, and commitment to democratic values make him a vital voice in the global human rights movement.
