Today, September 27, 2017, the mother of lawyer Buzurgmehr Yorov, for the first time in the last 9 months, received permission to visit her son in detention centerl. Buzurgmehr Yorov informed his mother that he had been constantly beaten throughout this time, and during the last month of beating reached the highest brutality.

Every morning, members of the detention center beat him and his cellmates with a club, legs and hands. Three times recently Buzurgmehr Yorov was put in a punishment cell for several days. The blows are applied to all parts of the body and to the head. Because of the strongest beatings, Buzurgmehr got to the hospital in detention center. After several days of treatment, he was again sent to the detention center where the employees continued their violent actions against him. Beatings are accompanied by coarse insults, humiliations and threats. The actions of the detention center's staff occur with the knowledge of the head of the detention center, Sadriddin Sharipov.

The life of Buzurgmehr Yorov is under threat. From the first day of his detention, he is subjected to severe torture and beatings, as evidenced by his clothes handed over after being detained by his relatives. With the continuation of such beatings, Buzurgmehr may not even wait for transfer from detention center to jail. In this way law enforcement officers try to prove to everyone that the attention of the world community to the lawyer's case will only exacerbate his position and adversely affect his health.

Recall that the lawyer Buzurgmehr Yorov was sentenced on the latest data to 28 years of strict regime for his advocacy for politically motivated trumped-up cases.

During the annual Warsaw Conference on Human Dimension Issues, held from September 11 to 22, 2017, the case of Buzurgmehr Yorov's unlawful conviction and imprisonment was brought to the attention of the world community, both by civil society and by delegations from the participating states.

We call on the UN Human Rights Committee, the OSCE, the United States, Canada, the European Union to pay close attention to the ongoing violent offenses committed by law enforcement agencies of Tajikistan in relation to the unlawfully convicted lawyer Buzurgmehr Yorov, which put his life at a very high risk, and to take sanctions measures and assist him in his release.
